it often eludes you.
The tighter you hold it,
like a fist grasping water
the faster it rushes away.
But the peace I give,
says the Lord,
the more you give away,
the more you’ll keep.

you can’t exhaust,
the more the thunder shouts,
the more the waves are tossed.

Just the other day we were talking about colors,
you know,
our favorites.
What we like.
What likes us.
Well,
it all just started kicking around in my mind again.
So,
I want to know.
Do you see me in blue?
Do you see me in blue, like the ocean
on a calm day?
Or do I seem to blend in better
when the ocean is rough
and green?
Do you see me in blue,
like a river reflecting the sky?
Or am I more like the white of the same water sent through a steep corner, speeding?
I guess I’m not sure what it all means,
but either way,
whether or not you see me in blue,
I’ll still be wearing the jeans.

That amazing redemptive spring,
the water that is
living
connects me to You, Lord.
First submerged, then opening,
but for gravity
my body almost floated,
continuing
the rest of the way
to Heaven.
Like the water,
the blood,
Jesus’ sin covering flood.
made it possible
for us to live again.
and now
You can see me.
