Writers have to battle
putting words on paper
to prove we’re astute.
So each time we sit and write
we offer up proof, and proofreaders
offer up judgement.

Then there are the artists
who like to draw, and when they’re done
they’ll show you what they drew.
As with words, the form and function
their art takes is something they are
quite willing to show you.

Now these days there isn’t nearly the need
for that wonderful word, swingletree.
But what a joyous exciting name for the wooden bar
that helps balance the pull of steeds.

So that closes accounts for this week’s Dictionary Roulette.
It’ll be back next week, unless I miss my guess.

Do Write

Writing out your thoughts
can make them stand up;
letters possessed of value
or ideas that need to be mucked.
Sometimes those notions
flitting through your nogin late at night,
are best allowed to continue their flit,
traveling where they might.
Just let em go land on
some other hapless scribe
recording for posterity what another writer might.

There are innumerable combinations
of letters and symbols
for humanity’s communications,
so there may never be an end.
But fashion forward or fashion not
from writers’ minds they’ll continue to rend.

It’s terribly
frust-er-ating when you carry on
so
must I tell you how I tear my hair out
yell-
ing bloody murder ain’t
en-light-en-
ing me to the cause of all this conster-
nation
Give me patience Lord I haven’t asked you for much
in the

minutes

Use your words child no not the ones daddy said the other day remem-
ber
he told you those are not nice
It’s just that daddy was kind of angry
oh I get it
yeah you’re right daddies misbehave sometimes too
let’s start ov-
er

We’ll use “our” words
did I tell you how you’re the answer to the prayer your mommy and I prayed
let’s find some pictures of your mommy when she was little like you
see
how much alike the two of you are
Sure we can read some stories
as
many
as
you
want

We’ll read some words
maybe we’ll learn some togeth-
er
that would be fun
